SPA TALK: STRETCH THE POSSIBILITIES!

Why it’s important
We all have bad daily habits that we don’t notice until something starts hurting. These bad habits are the root cause of many painful conditions. As a preventative, however, we can turn these bad habits into good ones that we can incorporate into our daily lives. You may think of stretching as something only performed by our golfers and pickle-ball payers, but we all need to stretch in order to protect our mobility and independence.
Where to start
What most people don’t understand is that stretching has to happen on a regular basis and throughout the day. I understand that with a whole body full of muscles, the idea of daily stretching may seem overwhelming. So here are some helpful tips to set you on the right track.

- Riviera Spa Massage has licensed and certified medical massage professionals that perform active/isolated stretching, Thai/yoga stretching, and massage to flush accumulated waist (lactic acid) trapped in your muscles to help aid in your wellness.
- Do it yourself throughout the day by undoing the position you’re in. There is no way to teach you a stretch for every activity you do throughout the day, but if you take the time to reverse the position of the joint and stretch in the opposite direction, you will lengthen tight tissue and reduce repetitive strain on the joints. Don’t forget to check your posture.
The cumulative effect of Stretching
You’ll need to stretch over time and remain committed to the process. Stretching once today won’t magically give you the flexibility and mobility your looking for. It may have taken you months to build that level of restriction and it can take just as long to achieve desired results. So keep realistic goals in mind and stick with it. Maintenance is key!
